WALKING Football Burwood, in conjunction with the assistance of Eastern Lions Soccer Club, commenced in February 2023 as a small group playing every Tuesday. The game provides a social and mental outlet for those who are looking for exercise and some social interaction.
We usually play 5 or 6 a side, depending on numbers, and cater for mixed genders and abilities. Our game is played at the Eastern Lions Soccer Club’s synthetic pitch in Burwood and teams are formed on the day.
The game is played with modified rules. This includes no running, no contact, the ball kept below waist height, smaller pitches, goals, and reduced time limits.
After the game, we enjoy some refreshments such as coffee, cake, etc., and a bit of a chat together.
We welcome new players (all-inclusive) regardless of age, gender, culture or ability.

We joined the Walking Football 4 Health Victoria Community in February 2025, and a couple of us have competed in their tournaments, including the one for Parkinson’s Awareness Day Event in April. We also look forward to competing in future tournaments when possible.
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting health, social inclusion, and well-being through a modified version of football (soccer). Originally designed for older adults and individuals with limited mobility, the organisation focuses on making football more accessible, ensuring that age, fitness levels, or health conditions do not become barriers to participation.
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria has successfully created a vibrant community of participants who benefit from both the physical and social aspects of the game. It has been instrumental in helping older adults stay active in a structured and enjoyable way.
We provide a supportive space for those dealing with loneliness or mental health challenges and assist people with disability or neurological conditions to be active.
As well as playing Walking Football, we also educate individuals on healthy living, nutrition, and fitness through football-related programs. We link up with many health organisations to do this.
In an era where sedentary lifestyles and social isolation are growing concerns, initiatives like Walking Football 4 Health Victoria bridge the gap between sport, health, and community well-being.
Through innovative programs, community engagement, and a commitment to inclusivity, we continue to be a leader in promoting social well-being through sport.
